Hello Ontario parents! Today in the Courtice Children’s Health Blog, we are going to look at various ways to lengthen kids’ attention spans. An increased attention span can improve learning ability as well as behavior and is an important aspect of kids health in Oshawa.

1. Find an activity that will hold their attention. This might mean that you need to experiment with different types of toys and crafts. One child might enjoy building blocks while another may become engrossed in an art project. There are many craft and hobby stores in the Whitby, Bowmanville, and Oshawa area where parents can get great ideas.

2. Recorded stories are a wonderful resource for increasing attention spans. Have your child lie on the floor and close their eyes, then play a recorded story. First, in the hot Ontario summer months parents should be sure to check any metal equipment such as slides before a child climbs on. The sun can quickly heat metal to the point that it can burn skin. Also, never allow children to play on the playground without wearing shoes.

Next, parents should pay special attention to the moving parts at their Toronto play area. These areas should be out of reach for children, but parents should always double-check to make sure that kids can’t reach these danger zones.

Third, don’t allow children to attach other items, such as jump ropes or leashes, onto the playground equipment.

Lastly, many families choose to ride bikes to the park. This can be the perfect way to get exercise and avoid childhood obesity in Whitby. Just make sure children remove their helmets as well as anything else that is around their necks (like hoodies with drawstrings).

Plain old food has the advantage of being unprocessed and free of chemicals and preservatives. So, let’s take a look at these seemingly boring snack ingredients.

Cheese is a real protein powerhouse for your kids, so a little goes a long way. For a fun twist, try using cookie cutters to make shapes that your kids will love to gobble up!

Peanut butter and childhood go together like, well, peanut butter and jelly. Ants on a log, peanut butter spread on celery with raisins is always a fun treat. If your child has peanut allergies, you can always substitute almond butter in most recipes.

Low-fat yogurt is probably a favorite of your child’s already, but this versatile source of calcium has plenty of tricks up its sleeves. Try adding berries, or something crunchy like granola or whole-grain cereal. And, in the hot summer months, a yogurt pop can really hit the spot.

The humble egg isn’t just for breakfast anymore. Hard-boiled eggs kept in the fridge might be one of the most convenient ways to enjoy this high-protein snack.

As you can see, the secret to children’s nutrition might just be that there is no secret at all. Find real food, make it into a snack, and ignore the claims made by processed, pre-packaged food.

Food Safety Tips For Bowmanville Parents
